EKOS (Ekološki omladinski savez Šapca) je nevladina organizacija koja se bavi ekologijom od 2009. godine. Od tada smo sproveli nekoliko projekata ("Čista reka Sava", "Treba da znaš da recikliraš", "Mladi ekolozi"), od kojih je projekat "Mladi ekolozi" najznačajniji i uspešno je realizovan tri godine u saradnji sa Ministarstvom za zaštitu životne sredine i prostornog planiranja.

Ciljevi radi kojih je osnovana organizacija:
• unapređenje zaštite životne sredine,
• edukacija građana, a posebno dece i mladih o značaju čuvanja i zaštite životne sredine,
• organizovanje aktivnosti na rehabilitaciji ugroženih područja, kao i javno zalaganje za promenu navika u pogledu korišćenja i čuvanja prirodnih resursa i u pogledu postupanja sa otpadnim materijalima,
• promovisanje značaja konzumiranja organske hrane.
Oblast ostvarivanja ciljeva:
• razvijanje svesti kod dece u predškolskom i školskom uzrastu u oblasti razdvajanja otpada na mestu nastanka,
• aktivnosti na čišćenju i sanaciji divljih deponija,
• popularizacija značaja zaštite životne sredine.
U okviru opredeljenih oblasti, postavljene ciljeve organizacije ostvarujemo sprovođenjem određenih aktivnosti, od kojih su najzastupljenije:
• Podizanje javne svesti (obrazovanje, eko škole i kampovi),
• Stručno usavršavanje (skupovi, konferencije, treninzi),
• Informisanje javnosti (kroz EKOS emisije na lokalnim TV),
• Promotivne aktivnosti (organizovanje kampanja, manifestacija i akcija, medijske kampanje),
• Sprovođenje akcija (npr. uređenja prostora),
• Obeležavanje značajnih datuma za ZŽS (npr. 5.jun, Dan zaštite voda, Dan planete...).

Foundation aims of the organisation:
• advancement of environmental protection,
• education of citizens, notably children and young people on the importance of preserving and protection of the environment,
• organising activities in rehabilitation of endangered regions, as well as public contribution to changing the habits of using and preserving natural resources and dealing with waste materials
• promoting the importance of organic foods consumption
Target areas:
• raising the awareness among children in pre-school and school age in the area of selecting the waste at the place of its origin
• activities in cleaning and sanation of garbage dumps
• popularisation of the importance of environment
Among the given areas, targets of the organisation are achieved with the accomplishment of certain activities, with the most prominent ones:
• raising the public awareness (education, eco schools and camps)
• professional development (meetings, conferences, trainings)
• informing the public (through local ЕКОS television shows)
• promotional activities (organizing campaigns, manifestations and actions, media campaigns)
• accomplishment of various actions (for example, arrangement of the area)
• other activities, ie marking significant dates for the protection of environment (e.g. June 5, World Water Monitoring Day, Earth Day, etc... )

“Čista reka Sava (Clean River Sava)“ (2010)
Aim and short project description:
UG EKOS Sabac in partnership with SKR Bistro organised the project with the aim to clean the right bank of the river Sava, 1300 meters from deposited plastic waste. The volunteers of EKOS cleaned the bank, whereas the volunteers of Bistro removed the waste using river boats.
Target group(s) and its size:
Fifty volunteers from UG EKOS and 30 volunteers from SKR Bistro were involved in this project.

“Treba da znaš da recikliraš (You Should Know How To Recycle)“ (2010)
Aim and short project description:
UG EKOS Sabac in partnership with UG Youth Union Sabac organised the project You Should Know How To Recycle. General project aim was to contribute to the raising of the ecological awareness among young people, especially up to the age of 18 and to help the creation of healthier surroundings and work environment, the encouragement of young people to be active as one of the solutions for more and more present problem of the pollution of environment. “Mladi ekolozi (Young Ecologists)“ (2010, 2011, 2012)
Aim and short project description:
UG EKOS Sabac in cooperation with seven primary school from Sabac town territory, aiming to raise the ecological awareness of young people of the significance of perservation, protection and advancement of environment, organised the project Young Ecologists for three years (2010, 2011, 2012). The project consisted of lectures and workshops for fifth grade students on the subject of water, air, soil, waste and recycling, where students could learn about basic terms and the significance of environmental protection. The evaluation of such knowledge was performed in a quiz Think Globally, React Locally, which was shown on a local TV station. The winners were awarded the 5-day visit to Cer mountain. The award was sponsored by towns of Sabac and Celje and the project was subfinanced by the Ministry of Natural Resources, Mining and Spatial Planning in 2011.

“Ekos na delu (Ekos In The Act)“ (2013-2014)
Aim and short project description:
The advancement of program quality and efficiency for raising awareness of dealing with waste in rural areas among different ages, having in mind the principle of gender equality. The project plans the public awareness development for dealing with waste, education of children and young people (art waste workshops for pre-school children and workshops for school children, where methods of informal education are to be applied, as well as a quiz competition and visits), getting informed and education of adults (lectures on the subject of dealing with hazardous communal waste), a TV show ECOS IN THE ACT, media and Internet promotion (TV reports, recorded and broadcasted quiz shows, media information, web page of the project, the information in social networks, etc.), consultation meeting with decision makers, announcing the results in public events.

FROM April 2, 2014 to April, 4, 2014,
In award competition for the journalist active in the area of the protection of environment and sustainable growth, TV show of Sabac Ekos Association, Ekos In The Act won the second prize. The competition was announced in January by the Regional Environmental Center for Central and Eastern Europe (REC), where Ekos participated with a TV show Ekos In The Act, in the competition among 55 works from all around Serbia. The award competition was organised within Sense, Supporting environmental civil society organizations in Serbia, implemented by the Regional Environmental Center, and financed by the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency. The aim of this award competition was to additionally support journalists and editors in the area of environment and activities of civil sector in Serbia. The TV show Ekos In The Act is organised within the above mentioned project of EKOS Association, so this award stands as the award for the whole organisation. The ceremonial award event was organised on the Regional Conference of civil society on Tara mountain. The jury in the competition for media creativity in the area of environment and sustainable growth consisted of professor Miroljub Radojkovic, PhD, a Full Professor at the Faculty of Political Sciences, the University of Belgrade; professor Zoran Jevtovic, PhD, Associate Professor at the Faculty of Philosophy, the University of Nis; and Boban Tomic, PhD, Assistant Professor at the Faculty of Media and Communication, the University of Singidunum in Belgrade. The explanation for the decision of the award given to the TV show Ekos In The Act states: The concept and the dynamics of this TV show production represent a good example for mutual functioning of ecological activists and their organizations with media workers. Inclusive media approach towards the initiatives and activities of non-governmental sector resulted in quality television series, which, using the fine choice of topics and process method, accomplished a significant result. Current reports, their importance for everyday life and strategic notion of the environmental problems make this television series full of quality and appealing. The dedication to younger generations and children and youth's participation both in the activities of editorial office as well as in ecological activities, is one of the functional advantages of this project.
“JKP Regional waste dump Srem-Macva“, for project “Za čistiji Šabac-Ti si na potezu (For Clean Sabac- It's Your Move)”

Short project description:
The project “Regional waste dump Srem-Macva“ is financed by the European Union through program EU Exchange 4 by Standing Conference of Cities and Municipalities, and jointly organised by the towns of Sremska Mitrovica and Sabac. Total project worth is 154,593.60 Euros, аnd donation worth is 138,655 Euros. The tentative duration is one year, and the project is expected to be completed in February 2015.
General aim of this project is raising the awareness among citizens of the importance of primary waste separation and recycling, and their active participation in responsible waste management.
Special aims are creating the conditions for sustainable beginning of works of new regional waste dump, the preparation for citizens of both towns for the introduction of primary waste separation at the source, as well as introduction of waste separation on 10 locations, by which raising of the public awareness will be monitored in both towns.
Project participants, apart from bodies of local administration of Sremska Mitrovica and Sabac are JKP Komunalije from Sremska Mitrovica, JKP Stari Grad from Sabac, JKP Regional waste dump Srem-Macva.
The project will be organised through activities of two non-governmental organisations: EKOS Sabac and SM Youth Centre from Sremska Mitrovica.
These two organisations will alert and inform the public and citizens through various activities, such as organising a photo competition on the subject of two waste dumps in the town, education in secondary schools on primary waste separation and recycling, actions of waste dumps clearing and a series of other actions.
The expected results of the project are: raised profit of JKP Regional waste dump Srem-Macva by the production and sale of pellet, the creation of primary waste separation development at the source with the support of local funds, decreased waste quantity on waste dumps, the increase in waste suitable for further process, the establishment of cooperation among all participants in collecting, sale and recycling of waste, and raised public awareness of the significance of waste separation at the source, which will significantly influence the betterment of the living conditions for the citizens of Sremska Mitrovica and Sabac.
UG EKOS Sabac was a local partner in the project of functional primary education “Druga šansa (Second Chance)“, and Maja Mandic served as an andragogical assistant in the project, where 51 course participant received a certificate, among which 35 were Romani people.
The project initiator is the European Union, which financed the project with the grant worth 4 million Euros. The project user is the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Serbia. The project was performed by GOPA Consultants, in consortium with DVV-International and the European Association for the Education of Adults (EAEA).
Within the project Second Chance, from 2011 to 2013, the Functional primary education for adults was accomplished for 4,000 adult participants over the age of 15, without completed primary education and professional competence.
Project aim: The general aim of the project is to establish a modern system of functional education of adults in Serbia, which will contribute in an efficient way to adult work force employment, as well as to the decrease in poverty, social cohesion and economical development of the state.
The curriculum of the Functional primary education for adults will be available for the participants and should be able to meet market demands, in accordance with the concept of life-long learning and with the emphasis on skills and competences.
The results of Second Chance project will enable the concept of the Functional primary education of adults to be a systematic solution for the introduction in total education system in the Republic of Serbia.
